The North East Bus & Coach Show at the Metrocentre
The annual NEBPT North East Bus and Coach show took place at the intu Metrocentre on Sunday 4th May. This year there were 33 vehicles entered for the event but with a number of late entries, an impressive selection of 14 vehicles from Go North East, 5 from Howard Snaith and a pair of Arriva vehicles there were over 50 on the day, despite a couple of entrants being unable to attend.
This year three free bus services were operated. The destinations were Newcastle Business Park opposite Dunston Staithes, the Tanfield Railway (after a break of several years) and last but not least, Go North East operated a service through the new Go North East Riverside depot. As this was an ordinary day of operation for the Riverside depot, enthusiasts were not permitted to alight the vehicle, but they could take photographs inside the depot grounds from the vehicle itself.
Plaxton Premiere 7079 made its debut at the event to unveil the new Go North East Driver Training Vehicle livery and 4710, which is now with the Northern National Restoration Group, was previously used by Go North East as a Driver Training Vehicle. Go North East Driving Instructor/Classroom Trainer, Michael Handy, was delighted when Craig Smith from the NNRG let him take 4710 out for a drive, as it brought back many happy memories
